There’s plenty of excitement, interest and confusion about CBD, Hemp, Marijuana, their benefits, differences and legalities. While hemp is legal in the United States, Marijuana is only legal in a number of states, and even then it is legal medicinally in some, and recreationally in others.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural extract from a family of plants that included the hemp and marijuana plants. CBD has been around for a very long time, but only recently been thoroughly studied to verify its medicinal properties and effects, as laws and restrictions have loosened.
Will CBD get me high?
No. While this is a common misconception, (after all, CBD can be derived from the Marijuana plant), CBD lacks (or contains trace amounts) of another compound, THC, which is responsible for the euphoric high associated with Marijuana.
Is CBD addictive?
Both CBD and THC are not physically addictive. They can offer many benefits associated with relaxation, anxiety reduction, helping with pain, PTSD, depression, and possibly cancer (studies are being conducted). Done for the wrong reasons, however, CBD or THC can be psychologically addictive in the same way that people can get addicted to gambling, shopping, sex, or any activity that offers an escape. That is a function of human nature, not the plant.
How is CBD used?
The explosion in popularity of CBD has created a world of products that are CBD-infused. Lotions, soaps, oils, foods, pet products, candy, and many many more can include and offer CBD benefits.
How do I know if I am getting quality CBD?
Great question. The legal market has caused increased testing and scrutiny of quality, but a large variety of strains and products still exist. Buying from a reputable brand is a good start. Asking for a recommendation at stores that sell a variety of brands is also a good idea, until you find a brand that provides you with the desired effect.
What does the future hold for CBD products?
There are hundreds of studies being conducted on the efficacy of CBD and Marijuana on a large range of ailments, disorders, both psychological and physical which includes cancer treatments. While CBD shows promise it has yet to be scientifically proven to be effective against cancer.
Currently, a majority of Americans believe Marijuana should be fully legalized, and it is a matter of time before it is legal across the country which will continue the explosion of CBD and THC-based industries and studies.
